2023 National Common Entrance Exams: Female Students Make Top Three, Gain Recognition

Primary school pupils in Lagos State who participated in the EKOEXCEL program, an initiative of the state government, performed exceptionally well on the 2023 National Common Entrance Examination.
The top performer at EKOEXCEL got a 199, only 4 points below the top performer at the national level who got a 203. More than half of the EKOEXCEL students who were monitored also scored 70 per cent or higher.
The top three EKOEXCEL pupils, all girls, Ololade Ganiyat of St. Mary’s Convent Primary School, Ugwu Victoria of Enitan Primary School and Chima Mesomachukwu from Community Nursery & Primary School, Ijeododo achieved exceptional scores of 199, 191 and 185 respectively.
Ololade Ganiyat, the top student at EKOEXCEL, has been performing at the top of her class for the previous two semesters.
Ganiyat remarked that she learned more and felt better about herself as a result of the use of motivational cheers to inspire and encourage her. She is living proof that EKOEXCEL’s approach to talent development and gender equality in the classroom works.
The program deepened its dedication to student achievement by providing access to all-encompassing preparatory programs supplemented with necessary learning resources.
Students were allowed to obtain useful familiarity with examination formats through unified simulated tests held at the end of each term.
As the principal public school reform initiative in Nigeria, EKOEXCEL has been at the forefront of this effort under the watchful eye of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB).
EKOEXCEL, a public education intervention developed under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES plus agenda, has become a globally recognized, award-winning program. Its goal is to provide public school teachers with technology-driven tools and methodology to help their students learn more effectively.
The acronym stands for Transportation and Traffic Management; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Making Lagos State a 21st Century Megacity, Entertainment & Tourism; and Security & Governance.
