And The Nominees Are; DMW’s First Lady Liya & Multitalented Wavy The Creator

On May 24, The Headies released the list of nominees and their categories ahead of the 15th year of the annual award show set to hold on September 4 this year.

We are excited to see the new, on the come up, and consistent names of women in the music industry from Nigeria and across Africa who are among the list of nominees.

In the ongoing series, Document Women touches on the illustrious women who have been nominated for the annual Headies awards.

LIYA

Born Abdulsalam Suliyat Mojisola, Liya was born in 1999 in Lagos state. She is a graduate of the University of Ilorin where she bagged a degree in Linguistics. Liya was recently announced by Nigerian star Davido’s new artiste signed to DMW (Davido Music Worldwide) making her the first ever female musician to join the record label.

Before she was signed and the public announcement being made had an incoming single “Be My Vibe” which she dropped right before joining the label. Her first major nomination with The Headies is in the Best Vocal Performance category.

Wavy the Creator

Jennifer Ejoke, known as Wavy the Creator is an artiste, fashion designer, filmmaker and photographer. She was born in Lagos Nigeria and spent her later years in the United States. She has been the official photographer and videographer of rapper Olamide since their meeting in Houston under the name Wavy Film and got internaltional and was noticed internationally with her breakout single ‘H.I.G.H’ in 2017.

Wavy the Creator moved back to Nigeria in 2017 to work on more visual projects with Olamide and eventually released her own fashion collection itled Azif. She has been nominated for Best Alternative Album in the 2022 The Headies.

Last year, Wavy The Creator was named Apple Music’s Up Next artist
