Flamingos beat Germany, win U-17 World Cup bronze

Nigeria’s Flamingos have won their first ever in a FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup medal after defeating Germany on penalties on Sunday afternoon.

The Flamingos had raced to a 3-0 lead but the Germans came back to draw 3-3 before they lost 3-2 during the shootouts.

“The girls gave a very good account of themselves but it was not to be. We have the bronze medal match to contend with and we will throw everything into it,” Head Coach Bankole Olowookere said on Saturday.

“Congratulations to the current Flamingos, who have become the 1st Nigerian female U17 team to win a medal at the FIFA #U17WWC. Nigeria led Germany 3-0 until the 72nd minute, but gave it up as the game went to penalties, however Nigeria won the shootout 3-2 to get the Bronze,” Making of Champions tweeted.
