Three students from Akure High School, Ondo State, have been detained by the Ondo State Police Command on charges of gang rape against a 14-year-old female student in Secondary Senior School 1.
According to The Guardian, the crime was carried out by a group of students including 17-year-old Ajayi Michael, 18-year-old Olawale Tobi, and 17-year-old Matthew.
The girl had apparently gone into a nearby bush at the school to defecate when she was waylaid and sexually assaulted by the boys on her return. The badly wounded student reportedly arrived class with bloodstain on her clothing, as reported by multiple witnesses at the school.
A witness claimed that the three friends had been following and harassing the girl at school for some time prior to the incident.
“The girl had complained to her friends that one of the boys was pestering her and demanding sex. But she turned him down. To make true his threat of getting the girl at all cost, the boy called his two friends to join in sexually assaulting her in an isolated place,” the source claimed.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Funmilayo Odunlami was contacted and confirmed the occurrence, stating that the accused were already in jail.
LlShe said the investigation had commenced and the proper measures had been taken by the Command.
“There is a case of conspiracy and defilement against the trio of Idris Matthew, 17, Olawale Tobi, 18 , Ajayi Michael, 17, all students of Akure High School,” Odunlami said. “They lured a 14-year-old student into the bush at the back of the school gate and gang-raped her. The three suspects are in custody.”
