UNILAG Professor Accused Of Raping 20-year-old Student Arrested By Police

Dr. Kadiri Akeem, an Associate Professor of Botany, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has been arrested on charges of raping a 20 year old student.
An arrest warrant for the university’s VC was issued by the state High Court on behalf of Police Commissioner Idowu Owohunmi.
The unnamed student claimed the incident took place during a meeting with the professor to discuss her grades.
Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, a non-profit organization where the victim reported the incident, claims the lecturer raped the female undergraduate on August 16, 2023, rather than addressing her concerns about her academic performance.
The incident was confirmed by Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer: “He is to appear in court in the coming days.”
Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, a spokesperson for UNILAG, responded by saying the school was aware of the investigation because it involved a member of the university’s staff.
She explained: “On August 28, UNILAG Management received a letter from the Nigeria Police Force inviting a university employee for questioning. The employee was immediately informed of the development and advised to comply.”
“On August 29, the employee complied. While we are not yet privy to the full details of the incident that led to the arrest of the employee, we are fully aware that the investigation is ongoing and we are cooperating with security agencies to ensure that the matter is resolved in the interest of justice.”
