The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has empowered no less than 800 survivors of gender-based violence in Yobe within a year.
According to a report by Nigerian News Direct, this was revealed by Mr Musa Muhammed, the GBV case manager on Monday during the inauguration of the new “Women and Girls Dignity Center” in Damaturu, Yobe.
He said: “We empowered more than 800 women, mostly survivors of GBV, from September 2021 to date”.
The GBV case manager went on to say that the Women and Girls Dignity Center in Damaturu trained beneficiaries in tailoring, soap making, and jelly making and offered counselling and medical assistance.
According to Mr Muhammed, this happened due to assistance from the UNFPA and other partners such as Action Health Incorporated and the Yobe Government.
Commenting on it, a survivor Aisha Modu, thanked the UNFPA and partners, saying that the gesture assisted in her recovery and reduced trauma from GBV.
