On Tuesday, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court dismissed a suit attempting to invalidate Stella Oduah’s nomination as the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for senator in Anambra State.

Ms Oluga found it discouraging that despite the advocacy and efforts of women’s organisations and MPs to promote women’s participation in Nigerian politics, little progress appeared to have been made.

This online behaviour seeks to achieve political outcomes: targeting individual women to harm them or drive them out of public life while also sending a message that women, in general, should not be involved in politics.

For Anambra State, these are the six women running for senatorial positions in Anambra Central and Anambra North senatorial districts.

She is the second female governorship candidate to be elected by the APC in the NorthEast region since 2015. The first was the late Aisha Alhassan in Taraba state.

Decision makers at all levels must institutionalise the meaningful and safe participation of women and their groups through  the adoption of fully resourced and accountable policies, strategies and frameworks.

Zingiswa Losi, the current president of South Africa’s trade union – Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), is set to run for reelection during the organisation’s 14th national congress, which will be held this week.

Her campaign,  the #BetterLIFE4EsanCentral agenda is based on the need for Esan Central LGA to have purposeful leadership to salvage the state of underdevelopment.
