Mrs. Shimite Bello Love (née Nwakalo), Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, has died under troubling circumstances that point to a possible case of femicide.
Her husband, Pastor David Favour Love, has been arrested by the police on suspicion of poisoning her. Shimite reportedly passed away on Easter Sunday after being rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in Asaba.
Witnesses say she was foaming at the mouth before her death. A close family source, speaking to Document Women confirmed that Shimite had been in good health in the days leading up to this.
Alarm was raised after Shimite’s maid called her elder brother to report that the husband had locked her indoors all day.
“Her brother rushed over and found her inside the house, unconscious. Foam was coming out of her mouth. He took her to the hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival,” the source added.Police were called immediately and arrested her husband at the scene.
As of press time, he remains in custody while investigations continue. Family members allege that the deceased had been isolated from loved ones and closely monitored by her spouse—an increasingly common pattern we see in cases of intimate partner violence.
Before her death, Shimite was a formidable public servant and entrepreneur. She contested the Oshimili North seat in the 2023 PDP primaries and had served as Executive Secretary of the Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency under Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
She was also the Group President/CEO of the Quintessential Group, a conglomerate involved in social enterprise, agriculture, and solid minerals.
At Document Women, we track femicide cases every month, and Shimite Bello’s death echoes a disturbing pattern: women being harmed or killed by intimate partners.
Isolation, control, and emotional abuse are frequently precursors to fatal violence. Every life lost is a call to action. We demand thorough investigations, justice for victims, and urgent reforms to protect women.
