Female IAF Officer, Sadhna Nair, Promoted to Air Marshal

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has officially promoted Air Marshal Sadhna S. Nair, making her the second woman in the IAF’s medical division to reach the rank of Air Marshal.

The IAF Training Command announced this development along with photos on its official handle on social networking site X (formerly Twitter). Air Marshal Sadhna Nair also has the distinction of three generations of her family having served in the IAF in the last seven decades. Her father and brother were also doctors in the IAF, while her son is a fighter pilot (Ft Lieutenant).

She was promoted in the presence of officers of Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services and her close family members. Air Marshal KP Nair (ret.) who happens to be her husband is also a retired Air Marshal.

Padma Bandopadhyay was the first woman in the Indian Air Force’s medical service to reach the rank of Air Marshal.

Prior to her promotion, Air Marshal Nair was serving as Principle Medical Officer (PMO) at HQ Training Command, IAF in the rank of Air Vice Marshal. However, with the new development, she is now serving as the Director General Hospital Services, Armed Forces.
