The suspension of US government funding has created significant challenges—especially for those who rely on HIV medication for treatment and prevention—exposing our heavy reliance on donor support. But this is not just a US issue. Other major donors, including the UK, France, and the Netherlands, have reduced or plan to reduce international funding. These cuts will deepen the struggles of communities already facing immense hardship in meeting their most basic needs.
Despite these setbacks, Gatefield remains committed to advancing health equity. After a six-week suspension, our PEPFAR SafeSense project resumed operations on March 17th, with immediate efforts to strengthen HIV prevention awareness and increase testing demand among adolescents and young people.
While the Nigerian government’s priorities do not yet reflect a strong commitment to health outcomes, we recognize that we cannot outsource the well-being of our people. That’s why Gatefield has launched an innovative impact campaign on GlobalGiving, empowering Nigerians in the diaspora to redirect their tax dollars toward life-saving care—without additional cost.
Contributions are tax-deductible in the U.S. and U.K., allowing donors to support critical healthcare while benefiting from tax deductions.
This initiative will provide HIV/STI self-test kits for early detection, HPV vaccines to prevent cervical cancer, and sexual health education to empower young people.
