Ezinne Kalu, an American born Nigerian basketball player, has expressed disappointment and hurt over the replacement of the Nigerian team with Mali for the upcoming Women’s Basketball World Cup.
According to a report by Pulse NG, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), announced the decision to invite Mali in light of the two-year ban of the Nigeria Basketball Federation by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This ban then made FIBA replace Nigeria with Mali; even though it was a defeat of the Malian team which secured the Nigerian women’s basketball team a place in the World Cup.
Commenting on the turn of events, point guard and basketball player Ezinne Kalu, took to her Twitter page saying: “I don’t think I will ever wear green and white again”.
The 29-year-old player further expressed the disappointment her fellow teammates felt saying: “We are all very sad and wish something could be done about this”.
