Despite receiving roughly N2.5 million from the victims’ families, the terrorists who kidnapped five female students from Federal University Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, have refused to release them.
The terrorists reportedly abducted the students from a school hostel 13 days ago, and one of the kidnapped students’ fathers, Muhammed Saba Ibrahim, was called by the kidnappers to demand N2 million for the return of his daughter, Muhammad Fatima.
On Tuesday, a cousin of Fatima’s discussed the situation in greater detail with SaharaReporters, saying that the family eventually negotiated with the terrorist to lower the ransom sought.
“The parents negotiated with them to reduce the ransom to 0.5million (N500,000) and we paid per head for the five students,” Fatima’s cousin said.
He continued by saying that the terrorists had refused to release the hostages even after being paid the agreed upon ransom.
“They demanded another ransom from both the government and the school management,” he added.
Answering the question of how much the terrorists now want, he said, “We didn’t hear that from the government, but they demanded N2million per head from the School management.”
