Labour Party Women Leader, Victoria Chimtex, Gunned Down At Her Residence

Mrs Victoria Chimtex, women leader of the Labour Party in the Kaura Local Government of Kaduna State, was shot dead by shooters on Tuesday.

The shooters reportedly broke into her home at around 8 pm on Monday and shot her dead. According to reports, the victim’s spouse was also shot and taken to the hospital.

Peter Hassan, chairman of the Labour Party in Kaduna, told Channels Television that the victim was a highly hardworking and very ‘Obidient’ woman leader of the party in the Kaura Local Government Area.

Hassan said the gunmen shot the woman multiple times in the leg and spinal cord, causing instant death. He added that the gunmen had turned down a monetary offer from the victim’s husband, pleading for them to spare her life.

Salome Abuh, a women’s leader in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was killed in her home in the Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State three years before her murder.

One of the suspects, Ocholi Edicha, was found guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced to 12 years and six months in jail by a High Court sitting in Idah, Kogi State in March 2021.

Peter Obi, the party’s nominee for president, expressed his sorrow over the tragedy on his official Twitter and Facebook pages.

“I am shocked by the mindless killing of Mrs Victoria Chintex, the Labour Party’s women leader in Kaura, Kaduna State, by yet-to-be-identified gunmen. Her death is a huge loss to her immediate and extended family, and to our Labour Party. She lives on in our hearts,” he wrote. “Her killing, and the loss of many innocent lives across the nation to gunmen and terrorists, are the reason why I must prioritize the war against insecurity as my first task in the office. We must not allow the waste of human lives in Nigeria under any guise.”

“May the soul of the Late Mrs Victoria Chintex rest in perfect peace! My sincere condolence to her family,” he concluded.
