Amidst the escalating difficulties in Nigeria, a mother of three has taken her own life by abandoning her children at an Enugu police station.
The news broke Wednesday, bringing tears to the eyes of Enugu locals who spoke about it at numerous events and on social media.
Fleeing from the police station, the distraught mother abandoned her children and fled under a moving car.
The mother, whose identity was unknown, took her children to the Ogui Road police station, surrendered them to the authorities, undressed, and then tragically passed away under the crushing weight of a moving car.
The three kids are reportedly six, four, and two years old.
Allegedly, months ago, in response to escalating difficulty, her husband fled the house, leaving behind his wife and children.
The oldest sibling merely stated that their father was missing when questioned about his whereabouts. She was unable to provide any other details regarding their family, town, or home address.
Not long after learning about the occurrence, wife of Enugu State governor, Nkechinyere Mbah, went to the police station, where she was informed that the woman may have been suffering from depression.
The news moved Mbah to tears, and she promised to raise the kids and guide them through their education, from nursery through to university.
She made the announcement that her Custos Care Foundation will be taking on the sponsorship of the youngsters.
The youngsters were ordered by Mrs Mbah to be moved from the station to a residence where they could be cared for by the state government without delay.
Her message to anyone struggling with depression was to get help and not make hasty choices.
Specifically, she pleaded with Ngozi Enih, the commissioner of the ministry of children, gender, and social development, to step up awareness campaigns and provide more mental health counseling to those suffering from depression.
