Simone Biles and other women gymnasts who say they were sexually assaulted by US national gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar are suing the FBI for $1 billion.
According to a report by the BBC, the women say the FBI mishandled complaints of sexual assault done to them by Nassar.
Aside from Simone Biles, the other women who are suing are Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney.
The claimants in these suits against the FBI say that Nassar continued to assault them even after his abuse was reported to the organisation in 2015.
They also claim that the FBI office where Nassar’s case was reported took limited action and did not document any investigation or alert any other authorities.
“My fellow survivors and I were betrayed by every institution that was supposed to protect us – the US Olympic Committee, USA Gymnastics, the FBI and now the Department of Justice,” Kayla Maroney, an Olympic gold medallist, said in a statement.
“It is clear that the only path to justice and healing is through the legal process.”
Larry Nassar is currently serving up to 175 years in prison for molesting gymnasts.
