Stephanie Linus, a well-known actress and director, has been appointed as the chairman of the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film category.

Chidia Maduekwe, MD of the Nigerian Film Corporation; Victor Okhai, President of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria; Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, a veteran actress; Andy Amenechi, a former DGN president; Yibo Koko, a theatre practitioner; and Izu Ojukwu, a writer and director, round out the newly reconstituted NOSC.
Other members are cinematographer, Adetokunbo Odubawo, aka DJ Tee; filmmaker, Emem Isong; director Dimeji Ajibola; writer and director, Jude Idada; director John Njamah; actress, Meg Otanwa; and Ngozi Okafor.
The new group will be in charge of gathering, reviewing, and ultimately selecting IFF entries to represent Nigeria.
The new members, according to a statement provided to The PUNCH, would incorporate their varied creative backgrounds into the process of choosing the finest film from Nigeria for the IFF category.
An international feature film with at least 50% non-English dialogue is honoured annually by the Academy with the IFF (previously Best Foreign Language) Award.
The Academy Awards stipulates that all submitted films must be available in cinemas, shot in a specific format, and have appropriate English subtitles, among other requirements.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC have announced that the 96th Academy Awards will air live on Sunday, March 10.
Following two years of consistent audience increases, the Academy Awards ceremony has been moved to March for the third year in a row.
