According to police, a 30-year-old security guard has been detained for the murder of his 12-year-old sister after he became convinced that she had engaged in sexual relations.
The police, however, confirmed that the girl had reached menarche, which is when a girl first menstruates.
Senior inspector, Madhukar Kad, of the Ulhasnagar police station said the girl had been staying with her brother and sister-in-law.
The girl’s menstrual bleeding had begun a few days prior. After seeing blood stains on her clothes, her brother began to suspect that she was having an affair.
But because she was too young to understand the monthly cycle, the girl was at a loss for words when her brother asked her about the blood.
“He accused her of having an affair with someone,” Kad told Times Of India. According to the officer, he also used tongs to scald her all over, including her mouth, back, and other areas.
The girl’s death came to light when she was sent to the Central hospital in Ulhasnagar for treatment, the official said.
Murder charges have been filed under Indian Penal Code section 302. A postmortem examination will also be performed on the girl’s body.
