Women Meet IG, Demand Arrest of Minister Sandeep Singh Over Sexual Assault

On Tuesday, a delegation of women’s groups met with Inspector General of Police (IGP), UT, Raj Kumar Singh to urge the arrest of Haryana minister Sandeep Singh in connection with a sexual assault case.
The IG revealed to the group that the state minister will be tested using a brain mapping procedure. He reassured the group that the police are doing everything they can to file a report with the appropriate court by March 29.
On December 31, 2017, an official police report was filed against Singh.
Former Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, was also contacted by the group. The members demanded that the ex-CM bring up the subject at every possible political event.
Subhashini Ali Sehgal, an ex-member of the National Women Commission, barrister Kirti Singh, an ex-member of the Law Commission, the national vice president of the Janvadi Mahila Samiti, and international player, Jagmati Sangwan, were all present and represented as part of the group.
A memorandum was also delivered to the Haryana Governor’s office by the delegation.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate sexual harassment claims against Singh has filed an application with the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), TPS Randhawa, requesting permission to conduct a brain mapping test on Singh. The request was submitted last week.
This report was filed at the Sector 26 police station when a junior female sports coach accused Singh of sexually assaulting her at his official apartment in Sector 7.
More than twice, the coach taped her comments before the SIT. She said in the FIR that between June and September of 2022, Singh molested her inside his office at his official apartment in Sector 7.
On January 7, the SIT added Section 509 (word, gesture, or act designed to offend the modesty of a lady) to the FIR.
